CAFS Director Retires

The Center for Advanced Friction Studies (CAFS) announces the retirement of its director, Maurice A. Wright. Dr. Wright came to Southern Illinois University in 1984 as the first director of the Materials Technology Center (MTC). While director of MTC, he developed a research program in carbon composites that became well known internationally for the quality of its work. Out of that research and the development of working relationships with industry, he began an effort in carbon-carbon brake materials for aircraft. In 1995, he co-authored the proposal to the National Science Foundation as principal investigator and found support from industry and the State of Illinois for the creation of CAFS. CAFS has enjoyed a great deal of success under Dr. Wright's leadership of the past 7 years. The staff of CAFS wishes him all the best in his retirement.
